Chisinau, 10 November /MOLDPRES/ - Over 18,000 residents and the main social institutions from the villages of Cazaclia, Tomai, Besghioz and Baurci, southern Ceadir-Lunga district, will have access to improved water supply and sewerage systems.

This became possible due to the implementation of the Development Programme for Water Supply and Sanitation Companies, under a loan Agreement between Moldova and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), a financing contract between Moldova and the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the financing agreement with the Neighbourhood Investment Facility (NIF).

According to Environment Minister Valentina Tapis, EBRD, EIB and NIF have been continuously backing the ministry in reforming and reconstructing water supply systems and sanitation in the past five years. "The Environment Ministry chose to support regions, and the project completed in Ceadir-Lunga is an example of promoting reform in the water supply and sanitation sector in southern Moldova. Models of independent operators who will provide services at acceptable standards were created here, with the environmental situation of the beneficiary settlements improved," said Tapis.

The Development Programme for Water Supply and Sanitation Companies comprises six districts: Ceadir-Lunga, Leova, Orhei, Hincesti, Floresti, Soroca and another 30 villages adjacent to these district centres. Ceadir-Lunga benefited from an investment of 7.5 million euros, with the total budget of the project amounting to 30 million euros.
