Germany to provide 6.5 million euros for Moldova's regional development

Chisinau, 17 December /MOLDPRES/ - The German government will invest over 6.5 million euros in projects on regional development of Moldova in 2015. The money will be spent for supply with water and sewerage, solid wastes management and energy efficiency of public buildings, the Regional Development and Constructions Ministry’s (MDRC) press service has reported.

The financing by the German Investment Fund is stipulated in six memorandums of understanding. The documents were signed by the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ), MDRC and administrations of beneficiary settlements on 16 December. The German assistance will be provided via the GIZ’s Modernisation of Local Public Services in Moldova Project.

Each memorandum was countersigned by the Regional Development Agencies, that will make the purchases and monitor the investments.

Under the agreements, a sewerage system will be built in Rosu village, southern Cahul district and a water treatment plant will be restored in the Cahul town. In the solid wastes management sector, an inter-community centre in the field is also to be constructed in Parcani village, northern Soldanesti district. At the same time, the unit on compacting waste will be restored in the Soldanesti town. As to the sector of energy efficiency of public buildings, investments will be made to optimise the energy consumption in hospitals from Orhei and Nisporeni districts.  

The above-mentioned project is implemented by GIZ and supported financially by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, Swedish Agency for Development and International Cooperation, Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Union.
