Over fifty libraries for children to be modernized within "Novateca" program in Moldova

Chisinau, 6 September /MOLDPRES/ - More than 50 libraries for children, recently included in "Novatec" Program, will feature more than 150 tablets, 16 computers and network equipment to facilitate public access, free of charge, on the Internet and online resources. However, more than 50 librarians will receive training in the areas of information technologies and modern library services for children.

The announcement was made at the first Guidance Conference START for children's libraries, which took place on 6 September at the National Library of Moldova.

Monica Babuc, the Minister of Culture, Evan Tracz, "Novatec" Program Director,  by directors of libraries for children and librarians across the country attended the event.

Asked by MOLDPRES, Minister of Culture Monica Babuc said that the conference aimed to familiarize representatives of districts - directors of libraries, librarians, mayors, heads of departments of culture to objectives and requirements of "Novatec" Program, logistics aspects of the equipment of libraries and professional development opportunities for librarians.

According to the official, in recent years, under the "Novatec" Program were modernized 758 public libraries that were equipped with 2,700 computers, and by the end of this program to be retrofitted over 1,000 libraries.

In this context, Novatec National Program Director, Evan Tracz, emphasized that these achievements were possible due to fruitful cooperation he had with the Ministry of Culture.

Joining the network of libraries for children "Novatec" is part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova and the program "Novatec"/IREX Moldova. In our country operate around 1,300 public libraries, out of which 133 are for children.
