Moldova's state protection and guard service to be subordinated to government

Chisinau, 22 December /MOLDPRES/ - The State Protection and Guard Service (SPPS) will be subordinated to Moldova’s government, under legislative amendments published in the 23 December issue of the Official Journal.
According to the new provisions, the Moldovan prime minister instructs providing protection to officials or their family members, upon a written request by interested institutions or at one’s own initiative, if a state of danger is found out or if there is information on organization of actions attempting against their life, physical integrity, freedom of action and health.
At the same time, the foreign officials and their family members are provided protection during their stay in Moldova, at a written request by interested institutions. Subsequently, the SPPS director can instruct providing protection to foreign officials on visit to Moldova on a period which does not exceed 30 calendar days, by informing the prime minster.
Under the document, the Service is led by a director, appointed and dismissed from office by the government, at a proposal by the prime minister. Also, the list of working headquarters, residences and objects guarded by the Service is established by cabinet decision.
The College of the Service is made up of 11 members. The composition of the College is also approved by government decision.
SPPS has earlier been subordinated to the Moldovan president and the aforementioned stipulations belonged to the head of state too.
