Moldovan president summarizes first month of activity

Chisinau, 25 January /MOLDPRES/- President Igor Dodon summarized the first month of activity as head of state.

Dodon said that in 2017, he would organize a referendum to dissolve the parliament and hold snap polls. “I will insist on snap polls. We are in the process of identifying the legal path that will soon change the Constitution. At the same time, we will propose amendments on extending the powers of the president so that he should be able to dissolve parliament”, Dodon said.

The head of state noted that a group of experts from Russia would visit Moldova next weeks in order to inspect the enterprises in the country as regards resumption of exports of Moldovan products to Russia. “I agreed with the Russian side that the list of exporters will be broadened, I mean the enterprises in Transnistria and Gagauzia. Also, during the visit to Moscow it was decided to initiate proceedings to cancel the restriction of residence in Russia to about 50,000 Moldovans”, Dodon said.

Also, the president pointed out he initiated several legislative initiatives, including as regards the theft in banking system and organization of a referendum to cancel the law on public debt.

President Igor Dodon was sworn in on 23 December 2016. The presidential mandate is for four years.
