Moldovan deputy premier meets Council of Europe official

Chisinau, 16 February /MOLDPRES/ – Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Balan had a meeting on 15 February with Head of Division of Co-operation Programmes, Directorate of Political Advice and Co-operation, Directorate General of Democracy and Political Affairs of the Council of Europe, Anna Capello-Brillat, according to the Office of reintegration policies public relations service.

The discussion topics focused on Transnistrian issue, developments in negotiation process, working (sector) groups, current issues on the agenda and prospects for their solution.

They also discussed issues on strengthening the partnership of Moldova and the Council of Europe (CE), being reviewed the results of projects implemented through the EC Action Plan on support of democratic reforms in Moldova 2013 –  2016 under the section "Confidence Building Measures".

In the context of completing the start of a new EC action plan for RM 2017 – 2020, there were dashed priority areas that would focus on promoting EC initiatives on approximation of the inhabitants of both banks of the Dniester, among which are such fields, like: media, education, support for civil society, human rights (in detention, social, implementation of international standards in protecting human rights in psychiatric institutions, etc.), health (e.g. promotion of prevention programs diagnosis and treatment of TB and HIV/AIDS in custodial institutions).

Finally, Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Balan thanked EC for consistent contributions and continuing involvement in the realization of projects of social impact for people on both sides of the Dniester, noting that similar programmes, by their apolitical and humanitarian nature, introduce a substantial contribution enhance of inter contacts and supporting the Transnistrian settlement.
