Three criminalistic laboratories modernized with EU support in Moldova

Chisinau, 17 February /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today participated in an event on presentation of three criminalistic laboratories of the technical, criminalistic and legal expertise centre, endowed with modern equipment of criminalistic investigation from European Union’s funds, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

In his speech, PM Pavel Filip stressed that the ensuring of the citizens’ security was a priority of the government, and the strengthening of the capacities of criminalistic laboratories was essential in this respect. “On the last period, changes have been seen; one sees that the reforms we keep speaking about are being enforced. The endowment of the  technical, criminalistic and legal expertise centre with new equipments means a step forward, better capacities of the police, as it is very important to have evidence,” the prime minister said.     

Attending the event, European Union Ambassador to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola highlighted the importance of this project for a functional and transparent judicial system. “I would like cooperation with tangible and concrete results. These laboratories will contribute to raising the criminalistic investigations from Moldova to a completely new, qualitative level,” the ambassador said.    

In the context, the prime minister appreciated the support provided by the European Union for the implementation of the reforms in Moldova. “Without this support, it would be very difficult for Moldova to move forward. When we speak about reforms, we should aware that they have their costs. To achieve positive results, one should be well-trained, have the needed equipments and working instruments,” Pavel Filip said.

Among the equipments with which the three laboratories were endowed, there are an automated fingerprint system, devises for investigating documents and diverse microscopes. The overall value of the equipment is of 4.5 million euros. About 6,000 legal expertises have been carried out and almost 300 offenders have been identified in the modernized laboratories so far.
