Chisinau, 20 February /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon has participated in a solemn meeting of the veterans of the Armed Forces and law-enforcement bodies – GLORIA, dedicated to the Day of Motherland’s Defender, the presidential press service has reported.

At the event, President, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Igor Dodon addressed a message to all servicemen and veterans of Moldova’s Armed Forces:

“Dear military! Dear defenders of our Motherland!

On the eve of the day of 23 February, who was a holiday for our fathers and grandfathers, who once bore the military uniform, I want to congratulate you and thank you from the bottom of my heart. Day by day, you were on the watch, defending the peace on our land and many of you continue to serve in the National Army at present as well.

Moldova is a neutral and peaceful state. We do not need foreign lands. We do not want to participate in foreign military blocs. Yet, to preserve peace and neutrality, we must have a strong army, which will be able, at any moment, to rise to defend our borders.

We have obligation to re-establish the prestige of the profession of military, the authority of soldier and officer of Moldova’s National Army.

Presently, this profession was forgotten in our country. Many officers live on the edge of poverty and many of them have to give up their jobs and leave the country.

We must keep in mind a mere example: a country which does not take care of its own army, will take care of a foreign army.

I want to once again address you the warmest and sincerest words for your assiduous work. I promise you – your Motherland, Moldova, whom you swore allegiance and for the defence of which you dedicated your lives, will always take care of you and will not forget you and your families.”
