Moldovan foreign minister meets NATO deputy secretary general

Chisinau, 20 February /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister Andrei Galbur has had a meeting NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s information and media communication service has reported.       

The head of the Moldovan diplomacy referred to priorities of the Moldova-NATO cooperation agenda within the Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP). Galbur highlighted the Moldovan authorities’ determination to continue the process of reformation and modernization of the national security and defence sector, in line with the new developments and requirements of the present security environment. He said that the goal pursued is to strengthen the national security and the security of Moldova’s citizens, with the observance of the principle of country’s neutrality.        

In the context, the minister reiterated the determination to open a NATO Liaison Office in Chisinau. Civilian experts from states development partners of Moldova will act at this representation and this will facilitate the bilateral cooperation, including the implementation of projects with the support of the Alliance. 

The foreign minister thanked for the assistance provided to Moldova to achieve these desiderata, with a telling example being the training of about 2,000 national experts in the fields of fighting corruption, defence, borders’ security, planning emergency situations, etc.   

NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller stressed the firm support by the North Atlantic Alliance for Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, respect for the country’s neutrality. The NATO representative emphasized the Alliance’s willingness to further provide expertise and needed assistance to promote reforms.
