Chisinau, 23 February /MOLDPRES/ - The regulation on the construction and placement of small drinking water supply systems will be published in the 24 February issue of the Official Journal (Monitorul Oficial) of Moldova.

The document establishes the requirements of public health for the water’s quality, choosing the place of construction, arrangement and exploitation of equipments for the collection, accumulation and distribution of water, as well as of the adjacent area. Also, the designing of the wells for supply with drinking water will be made by licenced design institutes, based on the urban planning certificate issued by the territorial architecture department.

The regulation’s goal is to establish by law the ensuring of the supply with drinking water of residents from small settlements, prevention and liquidation of polluting the centralized systems of population’s supply with water. The requirements are applied only to the small drinking water supply systems, which serve communities of less than 2,000 people, not also to the public systems which exceed this figure.

Data by the National Public Health Centre shows that about 80 per cent of the water from Moldova’s wells does not meet the sanitary norms, as it contains increased quantities of fluorine, sulfates, hydrogen sulfide and other chemical elements.

The regulation on public’s access to information on environment will be published in the 24 February issue of the Official Journal as well.
