Strategy of consolidating interethnic relations for 2017-2027 to be published in Moldova's Official Journal

Chisinau, 23 February /MOLDPRES/ - The Strategy of development of the interethnic relations in Moldova for 2017-2027 will be published in the 24 February issue of the Official Journal (Monitorul Oficial).  

The document’s goal is to integrate national minorities in diverse spheres of the state’s life and ensure the citizens’ equality, no matter the ethnic, cultural or linguistic affiliation.   

One of the Strategy’s objectives is to ensure national minorities’ access to information and programmes in the mother languages, as well as the audiovisual institutions to produce and broadcast content in the national minorities’ languages.   

Also, the Strategy sees that the state will ensure conditions for the studying and use of the Romanian languages by the citizens speaking other languages, promotion of the national minorities’ languages and the ethnic diversity in the society, active participation of national minorities in the state’s public life, as well as will facilitate the intercultural dialogue. Thus, the carrying out of the Strategy’s provisions will ensure the observance of the rights of the people belonging to other ethnic groups and will help consolidate the society by the sustainable development of the interethnic relations.   

The goals set in the Strategy will be achieved gradually, in three phases, with the costs covered from the state budget and funds provided by development partners.

According to statistics data, 23.8 per cent of all the Moldovan residents belong to national minorities, among whom Ukrainians (8.35 per cent), Russians (5.95 per cent), Gagauz (4.36 per cent), Bulgarians (1.94 per cent), Romanies (0.36 per cent), as well as other ethnic groups.
