Famous Moldovan composer сelebrates 80th birthday anniversary

Chisinau, 1 March /MOLDPRES/ - Composer, People’s Artist, laureate of the National Prize, holder of the Order of the Republic, full-fledged member of Moldova’s Academy of Sciences Eugen Doga celebrated his 80th birthday anniversary at the parliament today.    

The agenda contained an exhibition of photos made by Eugenia Tofan, posters and publications, a recital of songs composed by Eugen Doga, sung by pupils from Chisinau-based lyceums. The event titled, Eugen Doga – 80 Springs, culminated with a recital given by the composer and panpipe singer Vasile Iovu.     

In his speech, Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu said that more generations from all over the world had experienced their love story through the music of Eugen Doga. “Your music is that very value around which we can consolidate the entire nation,” Andrian Candu said.   

Attending the event, Culture Minister Monica Babuc stressed that Eugen Doga was an emblematic personality of the Moldovan spirituality, a personality who embodies the country’s national idea. “It is a great luck for us to be contemporaries with you,” the culture minister also said.   

President of the Academy of Sciences Gheorghe Duca said that Eugen Doga was a great herald of spring, an ambassador of Moldova’s culture in the world, an ambassador of the beautiful. “Eugen Doga’s music units all the world,” Gheorghe Duca stressed.  

At the event, Russian Ambassador to Moldova Farit Mukhametshin read a congratulatory telegram signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Also today, the state enterprise Posta Moldovei (Moldova’s Post) organized the launch of a stamped envelope „Eugen Doga - 80 de ani de la naştere” (Eugen Doga – 80th Birthday Anniversary), with the participation of the composer and Culture Minister Monica Babuc and the Chisinau city hall – an action titled ”80 de mărțișoare ale maestrului Doga” (80 March 1 Trinkets of Master Doga).       

A musical and literary show dedicated to the famous composer took place at the Chisinau-based B.P. Hasdeu municipal library also today.

Eugen Doga was born in the Mocra village, Ribnita district, on 1 March 1937. He finished the Stefan Neaga music college, the Conservatoire and Gavriil Muzicescu Art Institute from Chisinau. Doga composed valuable works in the genres of pop music, film and theatre music. He composed a symphony, the cantatas ”Primăvara omenirii" (Mankind’s Spring)  and ”Curcubeul alb” (White Rainbow), music for theatre plays, for over 100 movies, chamber instrumental songs, sentimental songs, songs for children. Eugen Doga was awarded the State Prize, honorific title of People’s Artist and Order of the Republic. Doga is the author of the famous waltz „Gingaşa şi tandra mea fiară” (My Sweet and Tender Beast), nominated by the UNESCO as the fourth musical masterpiece of the 20th century.
