Three EU information centres inaugurated in three Moldovan settlements

Chisinau, 3 March /MOLDPRES/ - Another three Information Centres of the European Union (CUIE) today were inaugurated at the Vasile Alecsandri district library from the central Telenesti town, Chisinau-based B.P. Hasdeu Municipal Library and the M. Sadoveanu district library from the central Straseni town.    

According to the press service of the European Union Delegation in Moldova, materials offered free of charge by the Luxembourg-based European Union’s Publications Office could be received and accessed at the information centres.  

At the ceremony on the launch of the Telenesti centre, the political officer at the EU Delegation in Moldova, Mindaugas Kacerauskis, said that the materials and information provided through the EU’s Information Centres represent a wide range of fields, beginning with belles letters, ending with legislation, policies, maps, teaching materials for children. “The beneficiaries of this information will be children, students from different faculties, as well as parents, business people, teachers, etc. I urge you to fully turn to account the resources offered by the EU information centres,” Mindaugas Kacerauskis noted.      

The goal of the work of CUIE, opened by the EU Delegation in Moldova, is to give citizens free and free of charge access to information and official publications about EU. The opening of new centres was possible within the pilot programme on partnership with the Novateca programme; this cooperation represents an additional contribution to modernizing the Moldovan public libraries, in order to reach more citizens with valuable information and services.  

Starting from 2007 till present, 12 European Union’s Information Centres have been launched in Moldova in various settlements, including Balti, Cahul, Comrat, Soroca and Ungheni. Six centres are opened in Chisinau, hosted by more universities.
