Three deputies of General Prosecutor appointed in Moldova

Chisinau, 09 March /MOLDPRES/ – Prosecutors Mircea Rosioru, Igor Popa and Iurie Garaba were appointed as Deputies of Attorney General. The announcement was made by General Prosecutor, Eduard Harunjen, during a press conference today.  

According to the new Law on Prosecutor's Office, deputies of the Prosecutor General shall be appointed without competition, by order of the Prosecutor General, with the written consent of the Superior Council of Prosecutors.

Eduard Harunjen said that Mircea Rosioru would be responsible for the Judicial Department of Prosecutor’s General office, Igor Popa – in charge of the Criminal Investigation and Criminalistics Department and Iurie Garaba –responsible for Directorate of political reforms and protection of the society. "When we selected the candidates we took into account professional qualities, I confirm that they have experience in areas that will be responsible of. Similarly, we took into account candidates' organizational skills, professional integrity and the authority they have among prosecutors," said Harunjen.

Mircea Rosioru is aged 37 and until now held the position of Head of the Judicial Prosecutor General, and in 2014 was elected President of the Superior Council of Prosecutors.

Igor Popa is 40 years old, started work in the Public Prosecution in 1999, holding on through several prosecutor positions in Center and Riscani sectors, head of the conducting criminal investigation in Exceptional Cases of the Prosecutor’s General office, prosecutor for special missions, Riscani prosecutor, and since 2015 led Prosecution in mun. Chisinau.

The third Deputy General Prosecutor – Iurie Garaba was reconfirmed in this function.

The deputy General Prosecutor mandate ends with the General Prosecutor, but they continue to perform their duties until the appointment of the new deputy general prosecutor.

According to the new Law on Prosecution, which entered into force on 01 August 2016, the General Prosecutor shall appoint deputies within three months after his appointment.
