Moldovan energy companies have no bids for energy supply

13:37 | 15.03.2017 Category: Economic

Chisinau, 15 March /MOLDPRES/- Energy companies announced they extended the deadline for collecting bids, given that “no supplier came up with any proposal” with only 15 days before the expiration of old contracts, 31 March.

A press release by the Economics Ministry notes that “lack of offers of delivering electricity for 1 April 2017-31 March 2018 from potential suppliers in the country and from abroad prompted the energy companies to extend the term of collecting bids until 27 March”.

During a meeting at the Economics Ministry, heads of the energy companies informed the leadership that after the decision to extend the deadline for bids to 14 March, they failed to get from potential suppliers clear offers on price and guarantees for delivery of electricity for the entire period of the contract. Economics Minister Octavian Calmic said that the institution was monitoring thoroughly both regional developments in energy and organization of purchasing electricity in order to ensure energy security of the state in the best conditions, including those related to security of supply for the entire contract period.

In 2016, the electricity supply contracts were signed in early March. The Economics Ministry announced that purchasing price of electricity was reduced for March 2016 by 12 per cent and starting from 1 April – by 28 per cent. Providers operating in Moldova purchased from 1 April 2016 from Energocom electricity by 28 per cent cheaper than the previous year. Moldova has paid a purchase price of 48,995 dollars for a megawatt against 67.95 dollars till 1 March 2016.

The same as in 2015, Moldova imported energy from a single source – Kuchurgan power station in 2016.
