Moldovan parliament to continue backing implementation of policies in competition sector

Chisinau, 16 March /MOLDPRES/ – The Parliament will continue to back the implementation of policies in competition sector. The statement was made today by Speaker Andrian Candu opening the International Conference "Competition Council 10 years – trends, challenges, perspectives", the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The speaker said, that 10 years ago, it was laid foundation for competition policies in Moldova, and since then the country has made progress in the field.

"We managed to advance from zero to administrative and legislative regulations. We managed approaching the national legislation to European experience and practices. During this period, the foundations were laid of the legislation through two fundamental laws: the Law on Competition and the Law on the state aid," said Andrian Candu.

The speaker appreciated the expertise provided by development partners to Moldova, thanking them for their support. Similarly, the Speaker noted that Parliament is awaiting a national program on competition and state aid for the next four years.

"Our objective is to increase the completeness of Moldova and the development of a sound competition. For this purpose, we need a change of perspective on the process of making decisions on market evolution, investment, research and development, policies on state aid, public procurement schemes, import/export, employment, customs, energy market etc." said the speaker of the parliament.

According to the head of Legislative, for the competition there are needed continuous joint efforts of central government and local authorities, regulators, NGOs, academia and expert community.

"It is important that in this process the priority to remain the consumer's interest. When the person can choose the best job, benefit of products at reasonable prices, good quality and delivered on time, we shall be able to tell that we live in a market economy where competition rules function. Our priority in this regard is to ensure finally a healthy business environment, true to the principles of market economy and fair competition," said Andrian Candu.

At international conference dedicated to 10 years of the Competition Council of Moldova participated chiefs of competition authorities in EU, CIS and USA.
