Chisinau, 22 March /MOLDPRES/ - Over 51 per cent of the Chisinau residents would vote for the dismissal of the Moldovan capital’s general mayor, Dorin Chirtoaca, if a referendum on the matter was held; 27 per cent would vote against and 18 per cent would not participate in such a plebiscite, according to data of an opinion poll unveiled by iData company today.

According to the poll, about 74 per cent of the Chisinau residents know about the initiative on dismissing the general mayor and in case of elections, 19 per cent of the respondents would vote for Dorin Chirtoaca to this office again. “The opinion poll also shows that there is presently no viable alternative to the current mayor, either on behalf of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) or on behalf of other formations. Thus, any aspirant to the post of capital’s mayor would have to fight to gain the trust of the population,” the executive director of iData, Mihai Bologan, said.

Also, under the opinion poll, 59 per cent of the Chisinau residents are not contended with the work of the city hall, 53 per cent – of the activity of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) and 45 per cent – of the work of the praetor’s offices. Also, more than 76 per cent of the interviewed residents said the things were going into a wrong direction in the capital. “Most Chisinau resident are discontented with the quality of roads, lack of jobs, cleanliness in the city, city’s management, beggars and shelterless people,” Bologan said.

The opinion poll was taken on 19-21 March on a sample of 234 persons with residence in the Chisinau city. The poll’s margin of error is +/- 6.5 per cent.

The PSRM faction of CMC in early last week informed about the initiation of the procedure of dismissing the general mayor Dorin Chirtoaca. The Socialist councilors at that time said that, “if the court turns down the registration of the initiative group, they will appeal the decision at the European Court of Human Rights.”
