Chisinau, 25 March /MOLDPRES/ – The Earth Hour 60+ is celebrated on 25 March in Moldova, together with dozens of world countries. On this occasion, there are scheduled more activities in Chisinau, the main being the symbolic lights disconnect for 60 minutes in order to alert of the need to reduce the negative impact of human activity in nature.

The main Event of the Earth Hour, held this year under slogan "Give your energy to nature!", will take place in the Square of the Technical University of Moldova (UTM), Riscani district of the capital, organised by the Ministries of Environment, Defence and UTM.

The program starts at 19.00 with an artistic agenda, supported by the Technical University Marching Band, Presidential Orchestra of the Ministry of Defence, bands "Plaiesii", "Crescendo Band" and more local performers.

At 20.30, the concert will be interrupted for an hour when the lights will be switched off, during which organizers have prepared several shows with fireworks and performance "a cappella". According to the Ministry of Environment, if today, between 08.30 p.m. to 09.30 p.m., all households in Moldova disconnect the electricity, it will save about 278 thousand kilowatt hours. In order to produce that amount of energy, there are consumed 86.8 thousand cubic meters of natural gas, which burning releases 165 tons of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere.

The Earth Hour has been marked internationally since 2007, the first edition was organized in Australia when in Sydney two million homes and offices turned off the lights for one hour. Presently, the Earth Hour’s community supporters have reached up to two billion people in almost 7000 cities of over 175 countries of the world. Moldova has marked the event since 2009.
