Crime Assets Recovery Agency to be created In Moldova

Chisinau, 30 March /MOLDPRES/ – The Crime Assets Recovery Agency (ARBI) will be created in Moldova, according to a bill adopted in final reading by Parliament today.
According to the document, ARBI will be an autonomous institution subordinated to the National Anti-Corruption Centre (CNA). It will pursue recovery of assets and proceeds of crime, in particular, corruption, money laundering and organized crime. Simultaneously, there will be also recovered criminal assets located both as in Moldova so the ones abroad.
Only 3 per cent of the value of goods seized for the state budget will be transferred to CNA annually. The agency (ARBI) will enable criminal investigators, experts and specialists in the fields of accounting and audit, special investigation officers, etc. Initially it was envisaged that the Agency would employ up to 30 workers.
Earlier, representatives of parliamentary opposition spoke out against the creation of such an agency declaring it as "inappropriate".
The bill was registered in Parliament on 28 November 2016. The document was initiated by a group of MPs from the parliamentary majority.
