Chisinau, 8 April /MOLDPRES/ - The Chisinau-based Court of Appeal on 7 April cancelled a decision by the Moldovan capital’s Centru law court, according to which the presidential decree on the withdrawal of the citizenship of the former Romanian president, Traian Basescu, had been suspended, till the settlement of the cause.

The presidential adviser on legal issues and institutional relations, Maxim Lebedinschi, made statements to this effect on social networks. “As it was natural, the illegal action of judge Viorica Puica, who suspended the Moldovan president’s decree on the withdrawal of the citizenship of Mr. Traian Basescu, was cancelled. The cause is to be examined on merits,” Lebedinschi said.

The lawyer of Traian Basescu, Andrei Bivol, has earlier told MOLDPRES that, within the cause, till 2 May this year, the claimant is to present the reference and evidence, on the basis of which the withdrawal of the citizenship was made. “Subsequently, on 3-12 May, we will already present counter-evidence and the first court session will take place on 16 May,” Andrei Bivol said.

In early last January, President Igor Dodon signed a decree on the withdrawal of Moldova’s citizenship from Traian Basescu. At that time, the head of state said that “Mr. Basescu was provided the citizenship illegally, as numerous approvals on behalf of more institutions, which saw that Traian Basescu was prosecuted on more counts in Romania, were ignored within the procedure; yet, he hid this essential fact, which represents ground for withdrawing the citizenship based on the legal norm.” Subsequently, the former president of Romania, Traian Basescu, sued Igor Dodon at law for the withdrawal of the Moldovan citizenship.
