Economic situation in Transnistrian region discussed in Geneva

Chisinau, 12 April /MOLDPRES/- Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Balan had meetings with government representatives of the Swiss Confederation, World Trade Organisation and United Nations Conference on Trade and Development on 11 April, the Bureau for Reintegration has reported.

The official thanked the Swiss government for financial support in setting up economic efficiency projects in Moldova in line with the world trade system. Also, Balan reiterated the Moldovan government’s firm commitment to continue implementing the reforms and roadmap on implementation of the EU-Moldova Association Agreement.

Another topic was focused on the economic situation in the Transnistrian region. In the context, it was mentioned openness of Chisinau authorities towards the people of the left bank of the Dniestre and economic agents in the region. In this context, the officials noted the facilities provided by the Moldovan authorities to economic agents in the region, simplifying registration procedures, issuance of licenses and opportunity to benefit from a preferential trade regime in relation to EU outlets.

The deputy premier informed that 62 per cent of exports from the Transnistrian region were streamlined to the EU market and noted that on 1 April 2017, 2,374 enterprises from the left bank of the Dniestre had been registered with the State Registration Chamber.

Balan is on a working visit to Switzerland to attend a meeting of Committee on Standards and Trade Capacity of the UN Economic Commission for Europe. The event was focused on the latest achievements in removing procedural barriers and regulation of trade across Moldova.
