Chisinau, 19 April /MOLDPRES/- Deputy Foreign and European Integration Minister Lilian Darii today met heads of diplomatic missions of the member states of the EU, EU Delegation, OSCE Mission to Moldova, Russian Embassy, Embassy of Ukraine and US Embassy accredited to Moldova and presented relevant information on organizing joint control at the Moldovan-Ukrainian border checkpoint Kuchurgan - Pervomaysk, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s information and media relations service has reported.

Darii noted that the Moldovan authorities’ tendency to restore control over the central sector /Transnistrian of the Moldovan-Ukrainian state border was absolutely natural and legal. This goal is based on its general principle recognized by international law on respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity of states set in the UN and OSCE fundamental documents, including in the decisions taken at the OSCE ministerial meetings on the Transnistrian conflict settlement.

Darii also pointed out that the joint control at the Kuchurgan-Pervomaysk border checkpoint would be carried out under the Moldovan-Ukrainian intergovernmental agreement of 11 March 1997 and the 4 November 2015 protocol on border and customs services. The project is supported by the EU, a practical contribution to which implementation is to be made by the EUBAM mission. Joint control of this type is carried out for several years at the Moldovan-Ukrainian border checkpoints „Briceni-Rosoşenî”, „Criva-Mamaliga”, „Larga-Kelmenţî” and „Giurgiuleşti-Reni”.

Darii underlined that the purpose of conducting joint control at the Kuchurgan-Pervomaysk checkpoint was to help facilitate the traffic of goods, transportation and persons, which would not harm the interests of economic agents and private people from the Transnistrian region. On the contrary, it will lead to boosting the export-import operations in the region, including excisable goods, in particular, by considerably reducing the customs control time and travel expenses.
