Germany to continue support economic reforms promoted by Moldovan government

Chisinau, 20 April /MOLDPRES/ – The preliminary results of the implementation of the Moldovan Government's Consultative Project on Economic Policies for 2016-2017, as well as the program priorities for 2017-2018, were discussed today by Deputy Prime Minister Octavian Calmic, Minister of Economy, with representatives of the German Embassy in Moldova and GIZ Project Manager (German Agency for International Cooperation).

According to the Economical Ministry’s press service said based upon German officials, following the implementation of the Project, the measures to overcome the administrative and technical barriers encountered by investors and the simplification of the requirements to them, the conditions for investment in Moldova were improved and the business environment has increasingly involved in drafting proposals to reform the areas, etc.

Currently, as a result of common efforts, the promotion of investment services are strengthened, so the Government of Moldova offers demand-driven assistance for potential and current investment projects that create jobs. In addition to supplying demand-oriented information materials, these services also include individual assistance to investing companies. For example, at the MIEPO capacity development department, in particular, by attracting foreign direct investment, about 1900 new jobs have been created and 4,000 jobs will be opened in the near future.

In the context of future activities, Moldova's authorities have been supported in implementing reforms in the fields of labour migration, labour law, improving fiscal policy to stimulate foreign investment, implementing the national industrialization program of the country, etc.

Deputy Prime Minister Octavian Calmic stressed that the Moldova Government highly appreciated the contribution of the German partners in the process of economic policy implementation, because their implementation contributed both to the modernization of the national economy and to the achievement of the objectives assumed by Moldova under the Association Agreement with EU. "The support offered to our country through GIZ Moldova by the German Government allows us to achieve more efficiently and at the level of a whole set of reforms that have a direct impact both on the national economy and on the quality of citizens' living,” said the Minister of Economy.

Since 1994, GIZ has supported Moldova. Cooperation priorities are to support sustainable economic development to reduce emigration and poverty, promote small and medium-sized enterprises and micro-credit.
