Chisinau, 26 April /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip, in the beginning of a today’s cabinet meeting, referred to the phenomenon of illicit transportation of passengers, especially in terms of taxi services, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The PM spoke about the situation emerged at the Chisinau International Airport during the last week heavy snowfall. “Taxi drivers were putting tariffs from 300 to 500 lei. There were people who did have such money and had to stay blocked there,” Pavel Filip said.

In the context, the prime minister stressed the way taxi services are provided in other airports, where there are electronic queues. Filip made an appeal to the leadership of the Chisinau International Airport to apply a fair system of taxi drivers’ work.

At the same time, the PM demanded that the Transports and Roads Infrastructure Ministry, Interior Ministry and Finance Ministry present, in a one-week period, concrete proposals to bring the taxi drivers’ activity to the legal area, including by revising the regulatory framework.

In particular, the prime minister touched upon the need to strictly apply the licencing/authorization of the economic agents in this sector, to use cash registers, to technically test the transport means and compulsorily check the drivers before starting working, in order to ensure citizens’ security and a loyal competition in this activity field.

“The illicit transportation of passengers and goods has grown and represents a problem both from the viewpoint of the traffic security, as we do not know the technical state of these transport means, and from the point of view of the state budget, in which the proper taxes are not collected because of the non-working  according to the law,” Pavel Filip added.
