Moldovan parliament speaker makes appeal to solidarity, unity in region

Chisinau, 18 May /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu has made appeal to solidarity to all parliaments of the region and spoke out for cooperation through exchange of experience, knowledge and expertise, in the context of the challenges faced by the Central and Eastern Europe, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.    

Candu made the statement at a summit of the parliament speakers from the Central and Eastern Europe, held in Poland on 17-18 May.

Andrian Candu pointed out the main security challenges for Moldova and the states of the region, including propaganda, mass misinformation, energy sector and frozen conflicts.   

On the sidelines of the Summit, the parliament speaker had meetings with Deputy Marshall of the Polish Sejm (parliament) Ryszard Terlecki, with whom he agreed to organize a meeting of the Moldova – Poland Parliamentary Assembly in next July, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Moldova and Poland. The Moldova – Poland Parliamentary Assembly was set up in 2011 and MP Nae-Simion Plesca is co-chairman on behalf of the Moldovan parliament.    

Also today, Andrian Candu had a meeting with Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary Laszlo Kover, with whom he discussed the boosting of cooperation, including on the parliamentary assembly, in the context of the recently approved Twinning Project, Moldovan Parliament’s Capacity Building in the Process of Adjusting to EU Norms. Also, Andrian Candu accepted the invitation to go to Budapest in next autumn.       

The discussions at the summit held in the Polish capital include security in the region in the light of the present challenges, cooperation for developing the axis North-South of infrastructure, role of national parliaments in the international policy.  

Attending the summit are speakers and deputy speakers of the parliaments of Albania, Azerbaijan, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Montenegro, Georgia, Lithuania, Latvia, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Ukraine and Hungary. Also, representatives of the parliaments from Armenia, Austria, Belarus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Macedonia and Turkey participated in the event.
