Fourth session of Moldova-Romania intergovernmental commission for European integration held in Chisinau

Chisinau, 19 May /MOLDPRES/- The fourth session of Moldova-Romania intergovernmental commission for European integration, co-chaired by Deputy Foreign and European Integration Minister Daniela Morari and Minister Delegate for European Affairs of Romania Ana Birchall, was held today in Chisinau, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s information and media relations service has reported.

The Joint Commission is the instrument meant to implement the priorities of the Strategic Partnership between Moldova and Romania for European integration of the country and facilitates Romania’s support for achieving the convergence of Moldova with the EU standards, especially, in complex areas.

Attending the event were representatives of 12 relevant institutions from Moldova and Romania. Areas addressed in the commission were: legislative harmonization, internal affairs, justice, prosecutor’s office, magistrates’ training, judicial cooperation, integrity, anti-discrimination, regional cooperation, agriculture, veterinary and food safety.

The sides set the continuation of the ongoing projects, as well as the focus on key priorities meant to support Moldova’s European integration. Agreed understandings include: supporting police reform in Moldova by sharing the experience and good practices for the development of the Joint Law Enforcement Training Centre; turning to good account cooperation platforms in justice, including by organizing in Chisinau the next joint meeting of the National Commission on International Humanitarian Law in Romania and the National Committee for Consultancy and Coordination of the Implementation of Humanitarian Law in Moldova; Romania’s support for conditions necessary for turning to good account the possibilities of exporting live animals and products of animal origin on the EU market. Also, judicial councils have drawn up a cooperation program, which includes the intentions of action for 2017-2020.

The next session of the Moldova-Romania intergovernmental commission for European integration is to be held in Bucharest in the second half of 2017.
