Moldovan Democrats' leader informs U.S. officials about reforms carried out in Moldova

Chisinau, 21 May /MOLDPRES/ - The leader of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM), Vlad Plahotniuc, on a visit to the United States, has unveiled to more American officials Moldova’s progress on the road of reforms, as well as the Moldovan governance’s commitments in strengthening the cooperation with Western partners, the PDM press service has reported.

According to the quoted source, the Democrats’ leader this week-end met more U.S. senators and congressmen members of the Republican Party, among whom the senator of Mississippi, Roger Wicker, a congressman of New Jersey, Chris Smith, congressmen of Texas, Pete Olson and Ted Toe, as well as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Bridget Brink.

At the meetings, the PDM leader informed the American officials about the reforms taking place in Moldova, reform of the government, as well as of the political system. ‘’Our country works at an accelerated pace to modernize itself and get closer to the western countries. Moldova further needs American support for development and democratization,’’ Plahotniuc said.

For their part, the U.S. officials appreciated the efforts made by the Moldovan authorities to implement reforms, as well as the present government’s determination to continue the European vector of Moldova’s development. Also, both sides reconfirmed the importance of the strategic dialogue and agreed to boost the official meetings.

PDM leader Vlad Plahotniuc is on a working visit to the United States. Within the visit, he is to have more meetings, including at the White House’s National Security Council.
