Moldovan-Lithuania political consultations held in Chisinau

Chisinau, 25 May /MOLDPRES/- A round of Moldovan-Lithuanian inter-ministerial consultations at level of deputy foreign ministers took place today in Chisinau. The Moldovan side was represented by Deputy Foreign and European Integration Minister Lilian Darii, and the Lithuanian one by Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Darius Skusevičius, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s information and media relations service has reported.

The consultations agenda included issues on the development of the Moldovan-Lithuanian relations, European affairs, cooperation within international organizations, Transnistrian conflict settlement, as well as security in the region.

The sides appreciated the existing bilateral dialogue at different levels, as well as good cooperation in various fields between both countries. Also, the officials reviewed the events due to be organized during the year on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Moldova and Lithuania.

Darii touched upon the European agenda of the Moldovan government and thanked for Lithuania’s constant support for implementing the structural reforms in line with the provisions of the Association Agreement with the EU. For his part, Darius Skusevičius confirmed the Lithuanian government’s willingness to further back Moldova in its European integration path by providing assistance and expertise.

Also, they remarked the development assistance for Moldova and noted the projects carried out over the last years in areas such as: good governance, fight against corruption, customs service, emergencies, innovations and civil society.

The sides also reviewed the good cooperation at sectoral level, especially, between the institutions of both states in justice, internal affairs, environment, food safety and social protection. In the context, they pointed out their openness to boost the economic cooperation between the two countries.

Referring to the Moldovan-Lithuanian collaboration, the effective interaction between the two countries at the UN, OSCE, Council of Europe and NATO had been highlighted.

Darii also reported on the efforts made by the Moldovan authorities to find a comprehensive and sustainable solution in the 5+2 negotiations for the Transnistrian conflict settlement, on the basis of respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova and adoption of a special status for the Transnistrian region.
