Moldovan Liberal Party leaves ruling coalition

Chisinau, 26 May /MOLDPRES/ – The Liberal Party (PL) leaves the ruling coalition. The announcement was made today by the party head Mihai Ghimpu, following a meeting of the Republican Council of PL.

According to the Liberals’ chief, the Republican Council supported the decision of the Political Bureau of the party to leave the parliamentary majority. "We went everywhere just to prevent early elections, then pro-Russian parties would not come to the government, but unfortunately the time shows that we were not appreciated either by citizens or colleagues in the parliamentary majority. This coalition costs us a lot, including the image loss. The, so-called, fight against corruption is being invoked, but in fact it struggles with PL to compromise this party, but it strikes us unfairly," said Ghimpu.

Also, Mihai Ghimpu specified that the detention of Chisinau’s mayor, Dorin Chirtoaca, would have taken place without evidence. "The mayor was detained yesterday because some City Hall officials would have said that he would have ordered them to sign the contract, even if Dorin Chirtoaca has nothing to do with it. The file on this case was opened in 2015, but decisions are being made now. What happened yesterday, it is a political decision and a show. So, the detentions of Dorin Chirtoaca and that of the Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure, Iurie Chirinciuc, have no legal basis," said Ghimpu.

Mayor of Chisinau, Dorin Chirtoaca, was arrested yesterday by anticorruption prosecutors and officers of the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA) in the file of paid parking, suspected of the traffic of influence.

Seven people were detained in the same case. These are the deputy mayor of Chisinau, the head of the Urban Transport and Communications Department, a former municipal councilor, the managers of three parking companies and a businessman, suspected that several companies participating in tender would have shadowed, including the winning one. Currently, some of the defendants are under home arrest, while others in the CAN’s isolator.
