Meetings of intergovernmental commissions with Belarus, Latvia to take place in Minsk, Chisinau next week

Chisinau, 31 May /MOLDPRES/ - The development of the trade and economic relations of Moldova with Latvia and Belarus will be discussed within the inter-governmental commissions for economic, industrial, technical and scientific cooperation, due in Chisinau and Minsk next week, according to a press release by the Economics Ministry’s Communication and Public Relations Service.     

The subjects on boosting cooperation in the industrial sector, assembling the road transport of passengers and agricultural machines, constructions, supply and processing of agricultural products in both countries, medicine and pharmaceutics will be considered in Minsk on 5-6 June.   

Under the agenda of the meeting, due to be held within an official visit to Belarus by Prime Minister Pavel Filip, a protocol of the 18th meeting of the Moldovan-Belarusian inter-governmental commission for trade and economic cooperation, as well as another five documents of bilateral cooperation will be signed.  

Over 20 Moldovan companies from the vine-growing and wine-making sectors, for producing and processing fruits and vegetables, beekeeping, bread-making will present their products under the slogan, Moldova Presents, within the BelAgro International Specialized Exhibition, due on 6-10 June 2017.    

The commercial exchanges between Moldova and Belarus in 2016 stood at 204.8 million dollars. Belarus ranks ninth among partner countries with which Moldova has trade relations, with a share of 3.38 per cent of Moldova’s overall commerce.

At the third meeting of the Moldovan-Latvian inter-governmental commission for economic, industrial, technical and scientific cooperation (8-9 June), representatives of the two states will discuss aspects on extending the bilateral cooperation within the European Union in the sectors of agriculture, regional development, energy efficiency, transport, technical assistance, education, mutual investments, etc. In the context of the commission’s meeting, a business forum and business council will be organized in Chisinau, with the participation of economic agents and business people from Moldova and Latvia.  

Presently, 57 enterprises with Latvian capital work in Moldova, the registered share capital of which amounts to about 28 million lei. In the first three months of 2017, the commercial exchanges between the two states stood at 2.8 million dollars. Moldova’s exports to Latvia grew by 8.4 per cent and the imports decreased by 17.6 per cent in the first quarter of this year, against the same period of 2016.
