Chisinau, 6 June /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon has set forth his opinion on the expulsion of those five Russian diplomats from the territory of Moldova. He made statements to this effect following a today’s meeting of the Supreme Security Council.

According to Igor Dodon, the reasons presented by the director of the Intelligence and Security Service would be insufficient for declaring the Russian diplomats as persona non grata on the country’s territory. “I was informed in detail about the premises which stayed at the basis of these actions, which show more political arguments; yet, I was not informed in whose interest. Subsequently, I demanded information on the work of all diplomats accredited in Moldova, both from the West and from the East,” Dodon said.

At the same time, the head of state noted that the participants in the meeting had also discussed the fraud in the banking system. “I heard the reports of the prosecutor general, director of the National Anticorruption Centre, governor of the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) and the finance minister. The participants in the meeting also referred to verifying the involvement of various persons in the theft of money, as well as its recovery. I was informed about the march of the inquiry and more files divided in six big groups, such as: Gacikevici group, Shor, Filat, Platon, Lucinschi, etc. Also today, I demanded the checking of the decision-makers who had worked during more years. I mean the BNM leadership, the management of the government at different times, the degree of complicity of other banks from Moldova and state enterprises. Also, we discussed the recovery of sums of money both inside the country and from abroad, as well as the speeding up of procedures of prosecution outside the country,” Dodon added.

The Supreme Security Council today convened at a meeting for the first time after Igor Dodon’s election as president of Moldova.
