Opera festival opens with famous pages from universal classical music in Moldova

Chisinau, 10 June /MOLDPRES/ - The second issue of the open-air festival of classical music DescOPERĂ, held at the Orheiul Vechi (Old Orhei) nature and culture reserve on 9-11 June, on 9 June was inaugurated with a concert titled From Baroque to Romanticism, which comprised pages of the universal music treasure.    

The show was performed by Symphony Orchestra of the Serghei Lunchevici National Philharmonic and Doina Academic Choir Chapel at the open air theatre from Butuceni, Orhei district, on an improvised stage of natural steps.    

At a ceremony on festival inauguration, Culture Minister Monica Babuc said, inter alia, that God is with us, is with these very good musicians and is with Moldova, in general, if He allows us organizing the second issue of the classical music festival DescOPERĂ.  

Attending the event, U.S. Ambassador to Moldova James Pettit stressed that an open-air music concert in such a picturesque place as Orheiul Vechi created an unforgettable experience. “The Government of the USA is proud to support the DescOPERĂ Festival.” The latter is worth enjoying the attention of tourists, having the potential to position Moldova on the world map of cultural and touristic events,” the American official emphasized.     

In the context, Swedish Ambassador to Moldova Signe Burgstaller said that tourists from all over the world may enjoy also in Moldova an event of the caliber of those from the Verona Arena, Italy, Holland Park Opera from the United Kingdom or Hall Gala from Sweden.  

Today evening, the Carmen opera by George Bizet will be performed on the stage of the theatre from the Raut river meadow. The show’s stage manager is signed by special guest Andrea Battistini from Italy. More than 200 participants are to perform on the stage: the children’s orchestra and choir Rapsodia, as well as artists of the Maria Biesu National Opera and Ballet Theatre.    

The second issue of the festival will end on 11 June evening with a programme titled, Does Johann Strauss Inspire You? Discover the King of Waltz in Butuceni. Music by composer Strauss will be interpreted by the Symphony Orchestra of the Serghei Lunchevici National Philharmonic, conducted by Friedrich Pfeiffer from Austria.   

The DescOPERĂ open-air classical music festival is organized by the Culture Ministry, Maria Biesu Opera and Ballet Theatre, Serghei Lunchevici National Philharmonic and Eco-Resort Butuceni, in partnership with Publicis Moldova, with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and of the strategic partnership Moldova Competitiveness Project, financed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Swedish Agency for International Development Cooperation.
