Chisinau, 22 June /MOLDPRES/ – The energy efficiency tools and the use of renewable energy were addressed at the Energy Efficiency Forum today, organized in Chisinau by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Moldova under the patronage of the Italian Embassy in Moldova. The forum was attended by entrepreneurs from both sides of the Dniester river.

The first energy efficiency forum development will facilitate the implementation of new European practices in this field and open opportunities for the use of renewable energy in Moldova, said Deputy Economy Minister Vitalie Iurcu. According to him, the Forum is a bridge to ensure energy security and sustainability and to develop public partnerships in the use of renewable energy by Moldovan and regional entrepreneurs.

“The use of renewable energy can solve the problem of providing the population with cheaper electricity and creating new jobs in the Republic of Moldova. Considering the increase in tariffs for gas and heating for consumers, Moldova more than ever would need to develop the level of the energy efficiency sector. In 2004 – 2016, renewable energy production tripled,” said Valeria Biagiotti, Italian Ambassador to Chisinau.

The Moldovan-Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Director Cristina Samson said that Moldova was an importing state of energy resources and that the energy efficiency sector was important for Moldova. She also specified that the energy efficiency sector meant measures of industrial improvement, the implementation of which enables optimization of the amount of consumed energy and obtained products or services. And saving energy meaning saving money, so energy efficiency being also a very profitable sector.

Now, several projects are being implemented in Romania, aiming at a gradual transition to alternative sources of energy, including the Energy and Biomass Project, funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP Moldova, and the MoREEFF project – the of energy efficiency financing in the residential sector in Moldova.

The forum was organized by the Business Bridge trans-river cooperation platform, a collaboration between the Moldo-Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the left bank of the Dniester river, and the Centre for Socio-Economic Development and Support for Innovation Entrepreneurship.
