Chisinau, 23 June /MOLDPRES/ – Dozens of trees in the capital were brought down after a strong storm today.

According to the Chisinau city hall’s press service, most of the trees were destroyed or damaged on streets Gheorghe Asachi, A. Puskin, Hincesti and Muncesti. The trees fell on the roadside or affected the Electricity Transport Registry’s contact network, as a result, the traffic flow, including the trolley-buses, was cut off on certain parts of the road.

The specialized intervention teams have already intervened in the field to ensure the elimination of the storm consequences and the unblocking of the streets. And Exdrupo’s workers work to clean streets and rainwater networks and evacuate sludge and waste from wind and water.

Interviewed by the agency, head of the Weather Forecasts Centre of the State Hydrometeorological Service, Ghenadie Rosca, specified that the storm began in the north of Moldova, later it reached the centre and is about to move southwest. “The storm will continue, and it will disperse within three hours. Similarly, there will be short storms during the night,” said Rosca.

The Civil Protection and Emergency Situations Service’s head, Diana Turcanu, informed the agency that “after the storm the rescuers were not requested and did not intervene at any location.”

So far, the State Hydrometeorological Service has not issued any weather warnings. Meanwhile, according to meteorologists, rains will return on 26 – 27 June.
