Moldovan PM meets US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State

Chisinau, 24 June /MOLDPRES/- The Moldovan-American partnership and boosting bilateral cooperation in areas of common interest were the main issues approached at a yesterday’s meeting between Prime Minister Pavel Filip and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State of the United States Bridget Brink, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The premier highlighted the importance of the US support aimed at implementing the reforms for Moldova’s development. Filip also remarked that the visit to Chisinau of the official shows the importance of the relation between the two states.

At the same time, the premier told the US official about the reforms initiated by the government in 2016 and in the first half of the year. He noted that a special attention was paid to the fight against corruption, judicial reform and stabilizing banking sector. The prime minister said that the implementation of the launched actions was possible thanks to the US support, based on the commitments made in the roadmap with the EU and the agreement with the International Monetary Fund. “We still have some issues we work on, but it is important that the direction we follow is correct”, Filip said.

Bridget Brink pointed out the authorities’ openness for dialogue which is focused on boosting the Moldovan-American strategic partnership. “We encourage you to further implement the provisions of the agreement with the IMF, we are willing to give you support in this process”, Brink said.

The officials also exchanged opinions about Moldova’s progress in promoting democracy and rule of law, combating trafficking in human beings, ensuring energy independence and reforming the central public administration. The dialogue also focused on the Transnistrian conflict settlement.
