Chisinau, 04 July /MOLDPRES/ – The European Parliament voted to grant €100 million of macrofinancial assistance to Moldova today.

European Deputy Siegfried Muresan said that the vote created the framework that allowed money to be transferred to Moldova, but only if the Chisinau authorities fulfilled the conditionalities related to concrete progress in areas such as the fight against corruption, the independence of the judiciary, the strengthening of the state based on the rule of law, the banking system and respect for the multi-party parliamentary system.

According to the MEP, the money will be given in three installments, and before each installment payment, the Chisinau authorities have to prove that they have made progress in several areas that need to be reformed so that Moldova becomes a modern state with a stable economy, increasingly competitive on the global marketplace and with a livelihood that is more and more prosperous for all its citizens.

"If these progresses are achieved, the money will be delivered within the deadline set by the European Commission, but if no progress is made, each installment will be blocked until the reforms are achieved," said the Romanian MEP.

Out of 100 million euros, 60 million will be in the form of loan and 40 million as grants.
