Moldovan competition council fines company over one million lei for illegal action

Chisinau, 06 July /MOLDPRES/ – The Plenum of the Competition Council imposed a fine of 1,051,775.65 lei on Supraten S.A. for infringement of the competition law. The company was accused of illegal copying the packaging of a product belonging to Saint-Gobain Byggprodukter AB, Sweden. The administration of the Moldovan enterprise said that the case was examined after the situation was settled amicably by two companies.

The Competition Council issued a press release today, stating that after the Court's decision was challenged in court, "the Court of Appeal upheld the decision of the Plenum of the Competition Council, which found that the actions taken by Supraten S.A. were capable of creating a confusion and may be capable of affecting the applicant's legitimate interests."

The case lasted for over a year, the initiation of the investigation was ordered on 03 March 2016 and the fine was set in July 2016.

The Competition Council also announced today that the Plenum of the institution imposed a fine of 390,356,14 lei on Transenca-Tur SRL for failing to submit the information requested by the Competition Council within the established time limits, in order to monitor compliance with the commitments proposed by the company and accepted by the Competition Council Plenum.
