Chisinau, 07 July /MOLDPRES/ – The teachers from UTA Gagauz-Yeri paid a visit to the Transnistrian region today. The visit was organized by the Institute for Democracy in partnership with the Bulgarian Cultural Society "Rodoliubet", as part of confidence-building measures, funded by the European Union.

According to the Institute for Democracy, the purpose of the event is to share the experience between teachers from UTA Gagauz-Yeri and those from the Transnistrian region to build confidence among teachers on both sides of the Dniester.

During the visit, the teachers discussed the experience of rural teachers from the left bank of the Dniester river, about possible joint initiatives, how teachers from the region worked within the Centre for Human Rights and visited several public organizations from the Transnistrian region.

The visit was organized within project "Improving the mutual trust between teachers on both banks of the Dniester: Forming regional capacity for the continuous development of teachers' competences through modern human rights education methods". The action was implemented in December 2016 by the Institute for Democracy in Moldova (Comrat) in partnership with the Bulgarian Rodoliubet Culture Society and the Centre for Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Young Women (Chisinau).

Within this project, the Institute for Democracy plans joint exchange visits and seminars for teachers on both sides of the Dniester river to develop skills in the field of modern human rights teaching methods. Similarly, it is proposed to create a regional teachers' network, the National Human Resource Methodological Centre dedicated to teachers from Chisinau, UTA Gagauz-Yeri and the Transnistrian region. Also, an important factor is implementation of sub-grants programmes in the field of human rights education for NGOs on both banks of the Dniester river, in partnership with the educational institutions.

The project is carried out within the framework of the European Union program for confidence building with the aim of bringing Chisinau and Tiraspol closer together through joint projects in the field of economic and social development initiatives involving key actors from both banks of the Dniester.
