Moldovan-Georgian relations develop on upward trajectory

Chisinau, 11 July /MOLDPRES/ – Prime Minister, Pavel Filip, had a meeting with Georgian Foreign Minister, Mikheil Janelidze, being on an official visit to Chisinau on 10 July, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

During the meeting, the interlocutors exchanged views on the current issues related to cooperation of Moldova with Georgia, advocating intensification of bilateral relations, including at intergovernmental and inter-ministerial levels.

Prime Minister Pavel Filip marked successes of Georgia in the process of European integration, sending a congratulatory message to the Georgian people for obtaining the liberalized visa regime with the EU. The Prime Minister also welcomed the signing on 03 July 2017 the Joint Declaration by the Moldovan, Georgian and Ukrainian legislators, asking the European Parliament to give them a clear perspective of joining the EU community block.

"I want to point out good cooperation in the field of European integration, the discussions of today, which took place at the 9th Informal Meeting of the Eastern Partnership, prove once again that we have a broad field of cooperation within the European integration process of our countries," said Pavel Filip.

The Prime Minister called for increased cooperation in the commercial-economic field, noting that the start of the work of the Moldovan-Georgian inter-governmental commission for commercial-economic cooperation, as well as the conduct of the Business Forum in April, in Tbilisi, would boost the development of relations in that sector.

The Head of the Executive also reiterated the interest in exchanging experience on Georgia's practices in promoting exports and attracting investment, and in the area of ​​domestic affairs, justice and defence.

At his part, Minister Mikheil Janelidze, expressed his appreciation for the potential of cooperation between Moldova and Georgia in the commercial-economic, tourism, cultural and educational areas. Also, the Georgian official congratulated Prime Minister Pavel Filip for the ambitious reforms promoted by the Moldovan Government, reiterating the full opening for the exchange of experience on it.

Finally, the interlocutors welcomed good cooperation within international organizations, especially the UN, the Council of Europe, BSEC, GUAM and expressed willingness to continue such cooperation in the future. In the context, the Prime Minister welcomed the Georgian Presidency in GUAM.
