Road tax for vehicles registered abroad to be cut in Moldova

Chisinau, 14 July /MOLDPRES/ - The tax for the use of Moldova’s roads by vehicles registered abroad will be gradually cut by up to 30 per cent. The parliament adopted a draft law to this effect in the final reading today.

According to the draft’s authors, presently, foreign drivers avoid Moldova because of higher taxes than in the region. Moldova levies a tax for transit worth 85 euros, while in Romania and Bulgaria, this tax is 11 euros. Thus, the tax is to be gradually reduced by 30 per cent, which will make Moldova more competitive.

Also, the draft provides for higher taxes for the use of roads by high-tonnage vehicles registered and not registered in Moldova, the overall weight or the dimensions of which exceed the limits allowed by the legislation.

The document also sees the levying of road taxes for the vehicles registered in the states which have signed agreements with Moldova on road transport and which imply mutual exemption from taxes, but which are not observed.
