Moldovan deputy premier has consultations with representatives of Ukrainian parliament, government officials

Chisinau, 21 July /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Balan, in the context of a 20 July job trip to Kiev, had more consultations with representatives of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada (parliament) (Anna Gopko – head of the foreign affairs committee, Maria Ionova – head of the European integration committee, etc.), Valery Zhovtenko – Ukraine’s special representative in the process of talks on the Transnistrian settlement, Pavlo Klimkin – Foreign Affairs Minister and Pavel Chernysh – minister in charge of the problem of the temporarily occupied territories and internally displaced persons, the Reintegration Policies Bureau has reported.

The discussions were focused on a wide range of subjects concerning the Moldovan-Ukrainian bilateral relations, situation in the process of negotiations on the Transnistrian settlement, foremost problems on the agenda of talks and prospects for their viable settlement, establishing joint control at the Moldovan-Ukrainian border checkpoints placed on the frontier’s central (Transnistrian) segment, aspects on regional security and other issues of common interest.   

On this occasion, the officials reaffirmed the firm positions of the national authorities, which mutually support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova and Ukraine in their internationally recognized borders, speak out for the peaceful, lasting and definitive settlement of the conflicts in the Transnistrian region and Donbas, which is to lead to the creation of territorially reintegrated, functional, independent states, and in which the observance of human rights and fundamental freedoms is to be guaranteed.  

Also, the sides stressed the need to synchronize efforts in order to identify solutions to problems on the joint agenda, continue the promotion of the structural reforms underway, advance in the process of European integration and carry out, with the support of external partners, social and economic projects able to improve the living standards of the residents and ensure the providing of qualitative services.
