Chisinau, 28 July /MOLDPRES/ - The country’s Constitution represents, prior to any political or government’s action programme, the first benchmark in the public action. Prime Minister Pavel Filip today made statements to this effect at an event dedicated to the 23rd anniversary of the adoption of the Republic of Moldova’s Constitution. Attending the ceremony were also Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, President of the Constitutional Court Tudor Pantiru, cabinet members, MPs, diplomats, representatives of the civil society and Constitutional Courts from more European countries.

According to the government’s communication and protocol department, the PM highlighted that the Constitutional Day was a good occasion to think about the way the democracy had changed and consolidated in Moldova, as well as to assess how  constitutional values and principles are put into practice. “The Constitution guides the governance process, which is focused on the supreme values, such as the rule of law state, civic peace, democracy, man’s dignity, his/her rights and freedoms, free development of the human personality, justice and political pluralism,” Pavel Filip stressed.

At the same time, the prime minister said that the goal of the government’s action programme was that the country’s Fundamental Law becomes a model for the social, economic and political reality in Moldova. “The materialization of the  constitutional values and principles is possible only through the full embracing of the European integration. The Constitution has been our compass in the last 23 years, helped us not get lost and stay worthy facing the history. For the next years, the European integration is an additional benchmark, the second compass,” the PM also said.

The PM launched a new appeal to the pro-European political forces to responsibility, sitting down at the table of dialogue and a cooperation which is to serve the goals set forth in the fundamental law. .In the end, the prime minister thanked the judges of the Constitutional Court for the way they had taken care that the letter and spirit of the fundamental law be observed. “The Constitution has been and will remain our political Bible, the best shield against political adventurers and players,” Pavel Filip added.
