Chisinau, 9 August /MOLDPRES/ - Magistrates of the Buiucani district court of Chisinau, besides the punishment with imprisonment, imposed a fine worth 35,000 lei against the former transports and roads infrastructure minister, Iurie Chirinciuc. At the same time, he was deprived of holding public offices during five years.

Iurie Chirinciuc was not present at the pronunciation of the court ruling.

The case prosecutor, Victoria Furtuna, today said that two economic agents, accomplices of the former transports minister in influence peddling actions, had  been recognized guilty too. “The penalty in form of imprisonment was enforced against an economic agent. Just as in the case of Mr. Chirinciuc, the serving of the punishment was suspended conditionally for a one-year period. A punishment in form of fine worth 2,250 conventional units (112,500 lei) was imposed on the second economic agent,” Furtuna noted.

Prosecutors said that they are to decide whether they would appeal the decision. Initially, the prosecution asked for a punishment of three years of imprisonment, with imposing a fine worth 1,700 conventional units (85,000) and depriving of the right to hold public offices for a period of three years.

For their part, the lawyers of Chirinciuc said that “the sentence is a legal one.”

The former transports and roads infrastructure minister, Iurie Chirinciuc, today was sentenced to one year and four months of imprisonment in a closed prison for influence peddling and abuse of office. The serving of the punishment was conditionally suspended for a one-year period.
