Diaspora Days start in Chisinau

Chisinau, 18 August /MOLDPRES/- The Diaspora Relations Bureau (BRD) of the State Chancellery organizes Diaspora Days in Moldova, the fourth issue, on 18-20 August.

The activities started with Open Doors Day at the government today. Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Octavian Calmic, Education, Culture and Research Minister Monica Babuc and head of Diaspora Relations Bureau Olga Coptu.

“This event is a moment of sincerity when we talk intensely about the achievements and problems of our citizens. It is very important for the government to maintain a permanent dialogue with citizens of diaspora and to bring home their experience gained in other states”, Calmic said.

The official noted that the state institutions, especially his ministry, are willing to back economic initiatives of diaspora citizens.

Monica Babuc said that the projects of the diaspora citizens will not be overlooked by the ministry. “All initiatives will be discussed and supported in line with available resources”. The official added that a string of events had been carried out to back diaspora citizens, including concerts, as well as more Sunday schools for Moldovan children.

Also, BRD presented a mapping of the diaspora of Moldova. The survey was conducted in February 2016- February 2017 and shows that the largest Moldovan communities are in Russia, Italy and Israel. Most migrants are able to work and study. The survey also shows that migrants are often employed in unskilled jobs, women predominantly in the domestic services and men in construction and transport. Most migrants, especially young people, will not return to Moldova.

Today the diaspora representatives are going to attend a string of workshops and thematic seminars at the Palace of the Republic. On Saturday, the diaspora will present the country of destination in an exhibition stand within the Gustar festival, in Orheiul Vechi. On 20 August, BRD will organize the Diaspora Cup in mini-football.
