Moldovan national bank launches design contest for commemorative and jubilee coins issue 2017

Chisinau, 28 August /MOLDPRES/ – The National Bank of Moldova (BNM) launched the design contest for commemorative and jubilee coins issue 2017. The participants who presented at least one design for a theme are to be accepted. The number of samples submitted by a participant on a topic is not limited. The original proposals will be selected, which offer the possibility to execute them on the surface of the currency, according to the information provided by the BNM.

The requirements for the design of the coins are set out in the tender specifications for the organization of the competition: Draft design for commemorative and jubilee coins issue 2017.

The design drawings will be submitted to the BNM under the conditions set out in the Tender Book, by 21 September 2017.

The first commemorative coin was issued by the National Bank of Moldova in 1996, 5 years after the proclamation of the Independence of the Republic of Moldova. The first series of coins was dedicated to the monasteries of Moldova. The series is composed of 20 silver coins depicting the churches in Moldova and it was launched in 2000.

The BNM also issues coins in the series Celebrities, Holidays, Culture, Traditions of Moldova and Monuments of Moldova. They reveal significant figures of national culture, places of historical importance or traditions in Romanian area. Also, a successful series is the Red Book of the Republic of Moldova – a series of pieces dedicated to flora and fauna of Moldova.

The National Bank of Moldova issued about 130 jubilee and commemorative coins with various nominal and thematic values in 1996 – 2016.
