Supreme Security Council meeting canceled today

12:55 | 29.08.2017 Category: Political

Chisinau, 29 August /MOLDPRES/- President Igor Dodon announced that the meeting of the Supreme Security Council (CSS) was canceled today, due to lack of quorum.

The president described the decision of parliament and government not to participate in the council meeting as a political decision. “I expected that the government will come and provide information on many current issues. In addition to the issue on Rogozin, other extremely important ones would be discussed. I think those in government should come up with clear arguments about the decision to declare Russian Deputy Premier Dmitry Rogozin as persona non grata, but their absence proved once again that the decision was political in order to worsen the dialogue with Russia”, Dodon said.

The president noted that if the representatives of the parliament and government boycott the council meeting, its composition will be changed. “We find that the government and Democratic Party have no arguments for the decisions taken against the state. CSS composition is approved by the presidential decree, so I want to prevent that if the government wants to boycott CSS meetings, I will be forced to change its composition to have a quorum and make decisions. Next days we will hold a new meeting, and if they do not come, we will discuss without them”, he said.

Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu announced today that heads of government and parliament will not attend the CSS meeting. He noted that the decision was taken after the president had included on the agenda the issue on government decision to declare Russian Deputy Premier Dmitry Rogozin persona non grata. “It is a matter for the government and not for the president or CSS. Talks on this issue are a challenge and we do not want CSS to become an instrument of geopolitical confrontation. There are many topics that can be on the agenda”, Candu said.
