Moldovan ministry of economy issues urbanism certificate for design of Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline

Chisinau, 01 September /MOLDPRES/ – The Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure (MEI) announced that it has issued the urbanism certificate to State Company Vestmoldtransgaz for the design of Ungheni – Chisinau gas pipeline construction works today.  

The construction works of Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline, which represent the second phase of project: Connecting the natural gas transmission system in Romania, with the gas transport system in Moldova, implementation will start in the near future and it is due to be finalized in 2019, the MEI’s press service has informed.

There will be completed the connection of gas transport systems in Romania and Moldova once it is put into operation. The new gas pipeline is a continuation of the first connection part Iasi – Ungheni, opened in 2014.

The Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline is 43 km long, out of which 10.4 km in Moldova. The total investment in the project is estimated at €26.5 million, about 80 per cent of the cost being covered by the Romanian side and the EU, and the rest by Moldova.

The European Union (EU), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) provide a €92-million financing package for the construction of the gas pipeline in Ungheni – Chisinau direction. The EIB and the EBRD grant a €41-million loan and the EU – a €10-million grant.
