Actions to support Roma citizens discussed at Moldovan government

Chisinau, 13 September /MOLDPRES/-Deputy Secretary of the government Valentin Guznac chaired a working meeting on 12 September. He approached possibilities of social integration of people from Roma communities in the context of their readmission from the Federal Republic of Germany, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The Roma community representatives, central and local public authorities, together with development partners analyzed the current situation on readmission of Moldovan citizens from Germany, especially Roma. At the same time, they presented information on the social and economic situation of Roma citizens from Briceni, Edineț, Glodeni, Râșcani, Soroca, Ocnița, Hâncești, Călărași and Nisporeni districts.
In the context, the participants referred to the problems affecting the Roma people and the measures taken by the public institutions to diminish the migration phenomenon among Roma, reduce the risks of exploitation of Roma in the country and abroad and change the situation on the matter.
“Today’s meeting is a continuation of the activities carried out by the authorities in order to identify the solutions to the issues faced by the Roma people in Moldova. We encourage the involvement of NGOs which have a pro-active position in the protection of Roma people and we rely on strengthening joint efforts for the benefit of beneficiaries”, Guznac said.
At the end of the meeting, they set priorities aimed at strengthening community centers and NGOs to support re/socialization of Roma people, report on human trafficking cases of Roma victims, support Roma employment as community mediators.
