Moldovan-Lithuanian bilateral relations discussed in Chisinau

Chisinau, 14 September /MOLDPRES/ – Deputy Prime Minister, Andrei Galbur, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova, had a meeting with his Lithuanian counterpart, Linas Linkevičius, today, who is on a working visit to Chisinau.

Andrei Galbur mentioned at the joint press conference of the two officials that during the meeting, the whole spectrum of topics related to Moldova-Lithuania bilateral relations was discussed. "There were also addressed issues related to economic cooperation and consolidation of the legal basis of the cooperation relations. Traditionally, there were also discussed regional issues as well as those related to the Transnistrian conflict settlement process. We also agreed to resuming the work of the bilateral commission for European integration of Moldova," said Galbur.

The head of the Chisinau diplomacy said he had examined with his counterpart in Vilnius the request of Moldova to question the withdrawal of Russian troops from Transnistria at the UN.

The officials noted that the current visit has been a symbolic one, taking place in the year of celebration of 25 years from establishment of diplomatic relations between Moldova and Lithuania. On this occasion, Lithuanian Foreign Minister, Linas Linkevičius, expressed gratitude for the fact that Moldova was the first country in the world to recognize Lithuania's independence, favoring the further development of a constructive and effective bilateral dialogue. The diplomat assured Lithuania would continue to support Moldova in completing its European path and implementing reforms for the change of lives of the citizens.

Moldova and Lithuania established diplomatic relations on 08 July 1992. The Moldovan-Lithuanian relations are governed by 49 bilateral agreements in various fields.
