International project to provide grants to back ecological farming in Moldova

Chisinau, 20 September /MOLDPRES/ - A project with international support has announced a contest of proposals of grant for Moldovan farmers, who work or are willing to develop the ecological farming sector.  

The project is implemented by the Czech non-governmental organization People in Need, financed by the United States Agency for International Development and the Czech Development Agency. Farms, producers of organic goods, associations cooperatives of groups of farmers working in the ecological farming sector can participate in the contest.     

The grants offered will be worth 2,000 euros or 4,000 euros. The money could be used to create points of selling Moldovan ecologically safe products, which are to provide diverse food products from their own farm or from more local producers or of mini-units for processing ecologically safe goods, warehouses for fruits/vegetables (but not construction activities) or for purchasing technical equipment (but not second hand) or any other innovative idea in the ecological farming, but not activities dealing with production.    

At the same time, the funds offered within these grants cannot be used for expenditures of the type of salaries, rent, taxes/public utilities, engine vehicles, medical preparations and fertilizers. The deadline for applying to the contest is 24 September. The proposals will be considered and the results will be announced till 30 September.  

People in Need (PIN) is an NGO from the Czech Republic which provides support and assistance for development and humanitarian assistance in more than 20 countries of the world. In Moldova, the programme was launched in 2014 and has already results. Thus, with the support of PIN and the financial assistance of the Czech Development Agency, nine agricultural cooperatives have been founded in Moldova. Czech donors made the last investment in Ceadir-Lunga, where five producers created a cooperative for selling fruits, Ceviz Erik. In last July, the construction of a refrigerator warehouse with a capacity of 600 tons started there, with the overall investment exceeding 300,000 euros.
